Two powertrains, two very different jobs
For 2027 the engine bay gets simpler. The 6.8L gas V8 and the standard-output 6.7L diesel are gone, leaving two engines. The 7.3L Godzilla gas V8, now standard on every trim, makes 430 hp and 485 lb-ft through a 10-speed TorqShift automatic, and it is the payload champion of the lineup because it puts less weight over the front axle than the diesel. It also gains a standard CNG/propane gaseous-fuel prep package, a nod to fleet buyers running alternative fuels. The 6.7L high-output Power Stroke turbo-diesel V8 is now the only diesel, rated at 500 hp and 1,200 lb-ft. Buyers who routinely pull near the truck's tow rating, run gooseneck or 5th-wheel trailers, or spend long hours under load will feel the diesel earn its price. Everyone else will find the standard 7.3L noticeably stronger than the 6.8L it replaces.
